Sense of Place History Workshops for Children 2006
The Oldham County History Center offers its 3rd year of winter workshops for children ages 6 through 10. These Saturday morning hands-on workshops focus on various aspects of the local cultural and natural history of the region. Cost is $2 per child, limited to 12 children. Times are 10:30 till NOON. Reservations are recommended but not required.
January 21 Celebrating D. W. Griffith's Birthday and History of Filmmaking
Children will get an overview of classic film techniques and then investigate modern photography using simple digital cameras.
January 28 Return of an Oldham County Native
: The American Bison
Explore the pre-history cultures of Oldham County and learn why it is important to protect our native cultural and natural history.
February 4 Journals, Scrapbooks & Diaries
Examine the old letters, diaries and scrapbooks of long ago. Special activities on journaling and calligraphy.
February 11 Civil Rights Walk and Tour of Downtown LaGrange
Children learn about civil rights and local African American history by meeting a local citizen, Cora Harris through re-enactor, Diane Booker.
February 18 Digging Deeper: Archeology in Your Backyard
What is an artifact?? Participants get hands-on experiences by conducting their own archeology investigation.
February 25 Pioneer Cooking with Lucy Ricketts
Explore the old time way of cooking. Lucy is an expert to teaching children pioneer basics of preparing food.
