MUGS AND MUFFINS SERIES
The Oldham County History Center celebrates Volunteer Week, April 15 with featured speaker Liz Everman. In celebrating it’s Golden Anniversary (1959-2009) the Oldham County Historical Society recognizes the importance of the volunteers that established the society and helped to create and operate the Oldham County History Center Museum and Archives. Today there are over 85 volunteers who work for the history center. The society is recruiting volunteers to help continue the mission “by telling the story of its people and the events that shape its development.” The April 15 program recognizes the importance of history center volunteers and launches the Mugs and Muffins series, designed for the education, entertainment and networking of history center volunteers.
Featured guest speaker for the Volunteer Kick-Off is Liz Everman, perhaps the most recognized television personality in the Louisville television market. Everman has been with WLKY NewsChannel 32 for more than 28 years. Liz retired from her anchorwoman post in June 2005, but continues to work on the station's weekly "Wednesday's Child" segments that she founded years ago. This segment is a special series of reports that helps children find adoptive homes. Liz has helped almost 3,000 special-needs children find homes through the program. She's the chairwoman of the board of directors for Wednesday's Child Inc., and also has served on the board of the Louisville Ballet. She's also has been a volunteer teacher for Junior Achievement.
People who would like to become a volunteer at the Oldham County History Center are welcome to attend the Kick-Off on April 15, 2009. Call the history center for more information: 502-222-0826
