It’s About the Hat!!!
Featuring guest speaker Jo Ross
Jo Ross

Fashion media expert, Jo Ross, gives a history on hats at the Oldham County History Center on Saturday, April 10, 2010 at Noon. Ross is a fashion marketing consultant working in the Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana, Atlanta and New York markets for over 35 years. Clients include shopping malls owned by General Growth Properties, CBL Properties, and Bayer Properties. I report for a variety of media clients as well, including the Courier Journal, Business First, The Voice Tribune, Seventeen Magazine, and the ABC, NBC, FOX, and CBS affiliates in this region. She is a registered member of the Council of Fashion Designers of America's 7th on Sixth press association and attend Fashion Week twice a year in New York.

CURRENT PROJECTS INCLUDE:

Marketing various national and local brands with TV and print editorial coverage : clients include Banana Republic, Cache, Ann Taylor, J Crew, Macy's, Dillard's, Von Maur, and local retail brands from specialty boutiques like Glasscock, Rodeo Drive, Rodes, Judy's Finest, Alter Ego, etc.

Throughout the Kentucky Derby Season, Ross produces television reports for WHAS TV, FOX 41, WAVE TV, and WLKY TV. These reports take place at Churchill Downs on the backside, and focus on the marketing of various merchants from the above mentioned malls, as well as local boutiques and retailers. Of particular focus will be the national brand, Frank Olive Hats, designed by Gabriel Amar.

In August, 2007 and 2008, Ross produced the Best Dressed in Louisville Event for The Voice Tribune newspaper. That fashion production included the designs of Giorgio Armani, Burberry, Zang Toi, Zegna, Canali, Milly, Ron Leal, St. John, etc. Ross coordinated and arranged for celebrity guest Nigel Barker to Emcee the event.

Charity events Ross has assisted with include the Kentucky Derby Museum, the Susan G. Komen Foundation, Hospice, the Heuser Hearing Institute, Crusade for Children, Maryhurst, CASA, The Queens Daughters, Prodigal Ministries, Stage One, the Louisville Ballet, Louisville Orchestra, The J. Brown Cancer Center, KYMAC, etc.

She also designed and produced the “Derby Decades, Simply Chic” Ky. Derby Costume Exhibit for the Ky. Derby Museum, which opened in April, 2009 and spanned 14 decades of Kentucky Derby gala and day attire, from 1875 to present.

It's About the Hat! will feature local collections of hats from the Oldham County History Center as well as the ones that Ross may bring with her. Ross will talk about the importance and culture of hats and give her insight on how practical turns into fashionable such as the popularity of today's Derby hats as an important icon of the Kentucky Derby.
